How long have you been teaching?
I have been in education for 17 years, 15 of which I spent teaching and the rest as an assistant principal. While working as an associate principal, I worked at both Whitnall High School and their middle school, and this year, I came to Horizon from Asa Clark.
What made you decide to become a teacher?
One factor in my decision to become a teacher is my dad's inspiration to follow my dreams and go into music. Additionally, my middle school band director, Mrs. Sindberg, helped me decide to teach music with her weird and quirky personality.
What do you enjoy most about working with 5th-grade students?
5th graders have a fantastic attitude and energy. They also contribute ideas and thoughts that bring joy and pizzazz to the music department.
What is one interesting fact about you that students might not know?
Only a few people know this, but I have a motorcycle, and I got my license in 2020. A fun fact is that I have a Harley Sportster, and the farthest I’ve driven it is to Nashville, Tennessee.
In what ways will you demonstrate and encourage the Create Graduate Competency in your professional career at Horizon?
I hope kids learn to express themselves through music to support the profile. I aim for students to share their experiences and ideas and become lifelong music appreciators.
