Ron Bowen (also known as Ringo) is an outstanding bagpipe player who lives right here in
Pewaukee! Hook Jr. staffers Red and Owen are taking bagpipe lessons from him. They decided that our Pewaukee community should know more about this talented musician and how he is helping Pewaukee students commit to a new musical instrument. They asked him questions about himself and his epic journey to bagpipe playing.
One thing Ringo said inspired him to play the bagpipes was that they always spoke to him. He would get excited whenever he heard them playing and making that loud and recognizable sound.
Ringo has been playing the bagpipes for about 53 years. After hearing someone playing them, he got his first set of bagpipes in Connecticut.
One cool and unique thing about his bagpipe is that it is made of silver. It is also made of a unique wood, African Blackwood, that sinks in water instead of floating like some other types of wood.
Ringo shared some advice for upcoming bagpipe players and beginning players.
Practice daily, use a metronome, and pay attention to become a great bagpiper.
Stay focused, stay hungry.
Many are called, and few are chosen.
I can't teach you the bagpipes; you have to play them.
