Hi, my name is McKenzie. My mom has three amazing lives—mom life, teacher life, and rockstar life! We decided to interview her and find out how she balances it all!
When did you start singing?
I started at age 7 in the Children's Choir at Carroll College and began voice lessons shortly after.”
Tell us a little about your band.
The band is Mt. Olive, and it has been together for 31 years, and I have been in it for 6 years. We sing high-powered rock, which is also called arena rock, for example, AC-DC and Journey. I am the lead singer, and we play about 30 shows a year! We are all around the state of Wisconsin.
What is your favorite part about being in a band?
My favorite part is that I reach people through music and touch their hearts in a way only music can. And I get to buy more shoes for my huge shoe collection and closet.
What is it like to be a mom and a rockstar?
Tiring! Exhausting! And Amazing! I love that I get to have an alter ego that is so different from my daily life.
What is your favorite song to sing?
My favorite song to sing is Blue on Black because I am married to a Milwaukee Police Officer, and it gives me a chance to honor the Blue Line and all the other first responders represented by that song.
Where was your favorite place to travel for a concert?
Even though it is the least paying, I like to play Summerfest, also called The Big Gig. About 6,000 applicants a year, and only a small portion get in.
Everything I do is quite similar: my job in education, as a softball coach, and as a performer. I reach and encourage people in my classroom, on the field, or in the audience.
