Pewaukee Schools has many staff members, but Gus is special. Gus is a golden retriever who works as a therapy dog at Pewaukee Schools. He’s been helping the Pewaukee community for four years, supporting students' emotional, mental, and social well-being.

Therapy dogs undergo specific training to help those who may need it. Their job is to comfort others and provide a calming environment. He lets people pet him, visits schools and hospitals, and does specific volunteer work. He is loving, calm, and gentle, and that’s why people at Pewaukee schools enjoy seeing him so much.

Gus’s birthday is August 10th, 2016, which makes him 8 years old. His owner and dog mom, Mrs. Davison, joined the Pewaukee staff in 2007, and Gus joined a little later, in 2020. Gus’s first job wasn't at Pewaukee Schools. He started his career by offering comfort to hospital patients. Since Gus was little, he’s always loved helping others.

Gus comes to school two days a week and rotates throughout the whole district. Gus is known around Pewaukee for his volunteering and smiling face while walking down the halls. Did you know that petting or sitting with a dog can lower blood pressure and create a sense of relaxation?

Since Gus was a puppy, peanut butter has been his favorite snack. Since he loves peanut butter so much, Gus is highly motivated by it. When Gus was training to be a therapy dog, his final challenge was to walk through a course with many distractions, one of them being peanut butter. When Gus walked through the finish line, he raced back as fast as he could to eat it.

When Gus and Mrs. Davison aren’t working, they love spending their free time together. They enjoy taking walks and relaxing at home. Gus gets to eat peanut butter and cheese sticks and enjoys playing with his toys.

As you can see, Gus is the furry, friendly, and comforting face at Pewaukee Schools. He does so much for the community and helps so many different students. We appreciate Gus and Mrs. Davison’s help in making our school a better place.
